  2. DESIGNER'S CLUB USER'S GUIDE
  3. ----------------------------
  4. All documentation assumes you have a basic understanding of how
  5. to use your computer and the programs you have purchased for it.
  6.  
  7. BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  8. ------------------
  9.  
  10. Designer's Club images require application(s) that are compatible
  11. with the EPS file format. EPS images are saved as Adobe Illustrator
  12. 3.0 files. Any other hardware requirements will be based
  13. primarily on the applications you use and the type of final
  14. output you plan to produce. For best results, your printer should
  15. be PostScript compatible.
  16.  
  17. NUMBERING SYSTEM
  18. -----------------
  19. Designer's Club has changed it's numbering system due to the 
  20. greater number of files now on disk.
  21. Each image file will have a number "001" through to "056." The
  22. Ideas & Images cover file will be "057." This will repeat itself for
  23. each monthly issue. For the color files, the number will be 
  24. followed by the letter "C." For the black and white files, the number
  25. will be followed by an underscore.
  26. After the "C" and or underscore is the year followed by the month. 
  27. EPS is the file extension on the very end of the file.

  29. ART SELECTION
  30. -------------
  31. ** Printed Pictorial Index **
  32. This provides thumbnail and file name for each image in
  33. the issue.
  34.  
  35. A WARNING TO COLOR USERS
  36. ------------------------
  37. The nature of color in desktop publishing is unpredictable. The
  38. way a color image looks on screen does not necessarily reflect
  39. the way it will look when it is printed, and different output
  40. devices and types of paper may produce different results. We
  41. recommend that you contact your service bureau and printer so
  42. that they can insure the kind of color reproduction you need.

  44. USING THE CLIP ART
  45. ------------------
  46. ** PAGE LAYOUT PROGRAMS **
  47. Open your page layout program, create a new document and place
  48. the EPS files as you would any other pictures. The following
  49. page layout programs are compatible with the EPS file format:
  50.  *PageMaker
  51.  *QuarkXpress
  52.  *Corel Ventura
  53.  
  54. ** DRAW PROGRAMS **
  55. Start your draw program, then Open or Import the EPS file. These
  56. images can be manipulated like any other EPS image. The
  57. following draw programs are compatible with the EPS file format:
  58.  *Illustrator (Open EPS images)
  59.  *FreeHand (Open EPS images)
  60.  *Corel Draw! (Open EPS images. Import as file type Adobe 
  61.   Illustrator 1.1, 88, 3.0 [*.ai, *.eps] or Postscript Interpreted).
  62. Many of your Designer's Club EPS images are provided as layered
  63. illustrations. This means that several elements can be lifted
  64. out of a single image and used as stand-alone artwork. In order
  65. to pull apart or separate the layers of an EPS file, a PostScript
  66. drawing program is necessary.

  68. If your application was not listed above, please refer to your
  69. manual for compatibility.
